Meet Men Without Leaving Home (Part 3)

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By Terry Hernon MacDonald The last of a 3-part series detailing the considerable social benefits of becoming the Hostess With the Mostess. More answers about entertaining to meet men follow: Ive been to so many parties where people just sit around with plates in their laps. How do I avoid hosting one of those? My mother, a fantastic hostess with a gift for facilitating merriment, had a rule: Fewer chairs than guests. If you have six chairs in your living room, get rid of two of them. If youve invited 20 people, dont fret about having 12 chairs. Your goal is for people to circulate. I cant tell you how many hostesses have killed a good time by offering too many chairs. The result is a coffee klatch, not a party. Serving food buffet-style will also encourage your guests to mingle. Let them use your kitchen counter and the top of your bookcase for tables. Trust me, they wont complain about it. If you notice a cluster of boredom brewing, break it up immediately. For example, if you overhear some married couple droning on about their childrens accomplishments, call the husband away and enlist him to lift something heavy. Or get his wife to lift something heavy. Just shut them up. After all the preparation for this party, Im going to be wiped out. How can I look and feel my best? Keep things simple, and you’ll look rested and gorgeous. Think quick food, clutter-free house, festive drinks, and music (or football). Thats it. If your house isnt beautiful, trust me, nobody worthwhile is going to give a damn. Theyre just looking for a day out of the house, and youve given it to them. So take the pressure off. Now. A week before the party, start reading food labels. If a package lists MSG, drop it. MSG makes you look old and puffy. Rev up your water intake. If you can’t take it straight, squeeze a little lemon into it. Nobody likes going to the bathroom 90 times a day, but when you wake up on party day looking younger than springtime, you’ll be glad you did. That morning, apply cool green tea bags to your face and eyes for 20 minutes. Please lie down first. Green teas anti-inflammatory properties eliminate puffiness and clarify pores. Try it after you wash your face and before you slide on the moisturizer . I dread the morning-after cleanup. Im not sure this is all worth it. It is worth it. Ask my husbands friend (the guy whos now happily married to the woman he met at his own party), and hell tell you. Look, I hate cleaning up, too, so wait until morning. Ask a good friend to help you. Let happy memories of the night before get you through it, as well as the knowledge that youve established yourself as a fun, welcoming person other people would do well to get to know. The bonus? At least one of your guests is bound to reciprocate, opening the way for you to meet even more peopleand even more men. Solar Lights - Pros and Cons

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By Jerome Sturgeleski When you are considering install lighting of any kind, you need to evaluate which types of lighting are available. Here are some pros and cons of solar lighting to consider. Pros: 1. Ease of installation - Shop at your neighborhood store or purchase from an online solar light supply store. When they arrive, set up and youre done. 2. They are relatively inexpensive - There are many types available of course, but the basic ones come in sets and they can cover the area you want lighted without having to run wires 3. They come in a variety of styles, shapes, materials and colors. Theres one for practically every application. 4. They can be moved around easily. If the area you want lighted is not quite what you had in mind, either move the lights or add more. 5. Since they are relatively inexpensive, you can change to another style or get the latest and greatest that is out today. Cons: 1. Need of sunlight. Solar Lights are powered by re-chargeable batteries. These batteries are charge via a small solar panel affixed to the light. If the area does not get adequate sun, the batteries may not charge adequately. 2. Batteries affected by weather. If your area does get wintry and cold weather, the batteries may not charge adequately since cold weather has a tendency to draw down the batteries power much the same as a car battery. Further, in winter, you may get more cloudy days and the batteries may not charge adequately. Your solar lights might even get buried in the snow and get forgotten and when clearing snow, they may be damaged. As you can see, solar lights fall into the same Pro and Cons that any product may fall in. The most important thing to consider is is to decide how flexible you want to be with light. Solar lights certainly offer that, but it may not be the best solution for every application. To check out some cool solar lights, see http://www.solarlightspro.com Jerome Sturgeleski started a website in May of 2005 when he decided to share his passion for enjoying his yard after hours. He thought that if his newly renovated landscaping project could be lighted after dark it would be enjoyable even in evening hours. He started small and is now offering many different types of solar lighting that would fit in in any number of applications. Relationship Advice: Should I Stay or Should I Go?

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Jeff Herring When problems develop, it’s natural for couples to wonder if they should get out of a relationship. In my experience, many people are a little to quick to get out, when they could learn a lot by working on the relationship and working things out. Many people mistakenly think that if they get out of a relationship, then their problems are solved and they can move on. Geographical relationship cure I call this a geographical relationship cure. Just because you change who you are with, all your problems will not be solved. Usually the opposite happens. If you don’t deal with the essential issues that damaged the relationship, it’s quite likely those same issues will pop up in the next relationship. You may choose a completely different package, but the contents will be very similar. A stinking analogy An analogy would be not to bathe for a week, and then put on fresh clothes in hopes that the clothes will solve the problem. The clothes may be brand new, but eventually they are going to stink too. Some important issues to consider here would be: Have you kept your commitments, both to your partner and tothe relationship? Have you done all you said you would do? What kind of influence are you on your partner? Are they better off as a result of being with you? It sometimes comes down to the Ann Landers question: “Are you better off with or without this person?” Visit http://www.SecretsofGreatRelationships.com for tips and tools for creating and growing a great relationship. Self-Help Tips For Dealing With Depression

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By Michael Russell Most of us have been there at some point. We’re overcome by a feeling that doesn’t seem to want to go away. Some event or circumstance may have brought this on, or it could possibly be a condition that we’re predisposed to. Depression. It can be quite debilitating to some people. So much so that they get to the point where drastic measures need to be taken to protect their well-being. Most often at this point harsh drugs would be prescribed to control the depressive state. However, for those who may not quite be at that stage, but are looking for a way out of their depression, there may be steps they can take to help lift the cloud. Here we will explore some options for self-help. First of all, think positively. It sounds easy, but this may be the most difficult step for a person suffering from depression to take. Whenever you find yourself drifting into thoughts of self-doubt, do your best to correct yourself and channel your thoughts to something more pleasant. It can be tough at first, but the more you work at it, eventually the easier it will be. The mind CAN be trained to think positively. Do something nice for someone else. Often times the act of performing a selfless deed can be quite rewarding. Help a friend if they’re in need, or if you’re feeling really ambitious, join a volunteer organization and begin a regular routine of chipping in some of your valuable time. You’ll be helping those in need and the sense of satisfaction you take from it can be more rewarding than you think. Exercise. Exercise is a terrific stress reliever and has the power to help foster a more vibrant attitude. If you’re feeling the effects of depression, get up and take a walk, or start a regular exercise routine. Set goals for yourself fitness wise and watch the results. Your sense of accomplishment at meeting and even surpassing your goals can be quite uplifting. Sing. Find a song, or CD you enjoy with an uplifting beat to it. Turn your stereo up and let fly. Have fun with it and before you know it, the blues will melt away. Chocolate. It may sound silly, but eating chocolate has been found to help lighten a person’s mood. Chocolate helps release endorphins, which help foster improvements in well-being, as well as help relieve pain. So indulge in your favorite chocolate when you’re feeling blue. Associate with happy people. The more you associate with more cheerful friends and family, the less chance you have of feeling down. So spend time with people you enjoy as often as possible. These are just a few tips to help you along. If you have tried these tips with no success and you find that your depressive state has not improved, or has gotten worse. You would be strongly advised to see your doctor as soon as possible. You may suffer from a chemical imbalance or a disorder that may require professional treatment. If left untreated your condition could lead to serious harm to yourself or someone you care about. So if you feel you’re at risk, seek help immediately. Cephalosporin Antibiotics

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Yury_Bayarski] Yury Bayarski Cephalosporins are the most frequently prescribed class of antibiotics. Cephalosporins are bactericidal agents, which means that they kill bacteria. They have the same mode of action as as penicillins. All bacterial cells have a cell wall that protects them. Cephalosporins disrupt the synthesis of the peptidoglycan layer of bacterial cell walls, which causes the walls to break down and eventually the bacteria die. Cephalosporin compounds were first isolated from cultures of Cephalosporium acremonium from a sewer in Sardinia in 1948 by Italian scientist Giuseppe Brotzu. The first agent cephalothin (cefalotin) was launched by Eli Lilly in 1964. Cephalosporins are used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections, such as respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, strep throat, tonsillitis, bronchitis), skin infections and urinary tract infections. They are sometimes given with other antibiotics. Cephalosporins are also commonly used for surgical prophylaxis - prevention of bacterial infection before, during, and after surgery. Classification of Cephalosporins Cephalosporins are grouped into “generations” based on their spectrum of antimicrobial activity. The first cephalosporins were designated first generation while later, more extended spectrum cephalosporins were classified as second generation cephalosporins. Each newer generation has significantly greater gram-negative antimicrobial properties than the preceding generation, in most cases with decreased activity against gram-positive organisms. Fourth generation cephalosporins, however, have true broad spectrum activity. First generation First generation cephalosporins are moderate spectrum agents. They are effective alternatives for treating staphylococcal and streptococcal infections and therefore are alternatives for skin and soft-tissue infections, as well as for streptococcal pharyngitis. The first generation cephalosporins are Cefadroxil, Cephalexin, Cephaloridine, Cephalothin, Cephapirin, Cefazolin, and Cephradine. Cefazolin is the most commonly used first generation cephalosporin. The others have similar efficacy to Cephalexin, but must be dosed more often, and are therefore not as commonly prescribed. Second generation The second generation cephalosporins have a greater gram-negative spectrum while retaining some activity against gram-positive bacteria. They are useful agents for treating upper and lower respiratory tract infections, sinusitis and otitis media. These agents are also active against E. coli, Klebsiella and Proteus, which makes them potential alternatives for treating urinary tract infections caused by these organisms. The second generation cephalosporins are Cefaclor, Cefoxitin, Cefprozil, Cefuroxime. Third generation Third generation cephalosporins have a broad spectrum of activity and further increased activity against gram-negative organisms. Some members of this group (particularly those available in an oral formulation) have decreased activity against gram-positive organisms. The parenteral third generation cephalosporins (ceftriaxone and cefotaxime) have excellent activity against most strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae, including the vast majority of those with intermediate and high level resistance to penicillin. These agents also have activity against N. gonorrhoeae. Ceftazidime has useful antipseudomonal activity. The third generation cephalosporins are Cefdinir, Cefixime, Cefpodoxime, Ceftibuten, Ceftriaxone, Cefotaxime. Fourth generation Fourth generation cephalosporins are extended spectrum agents with similar activity against gram-positive organisms as first generation cephalosporins. They also have a greater resistance to beta-lactamases than the third generation cephalosporins. Many can cross blood brain barrier and are effective in meningitis. The fourth generation cephalosporins are Cefepime, Cefluprenam, Cefozopran, Cefpirome, Cefquinome. Cefepime is a more gram-negative drug with somewhat enhanced activity against pseudomonas but slightly lesser activity against pneumococci. Cefpirome is more active against pneumococci and has somewhat lesser activity against pseudomonas. These drugs also have activity against nosocomial pathogens such as Enterobacter and Acinetobacter and their use should therefore be restricted to the setting of nosocomial sepsis. Side effects Cephalosporins generally cause few side effects. Common side effects involve mainly the digestive system: stomach cramps or upset, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. These side effects are usually mild and go away over time. Cephalosporins can sometimes cause overgrowth of fungus normally present in the body. This overgrowth can cause mild side effects such as a sore tongue, sores inside the mouth, or vaginal yeast infections. More serious but infrequent reactions that can sometimes occur with cephalosporins include: black, tarry stools; chest pain; fever; painful or difficult urination; allergic reactions; serious colitis. Serious colitis is a rare side effect that includes severe watery diarrhea (sometimes containing blood or mucus), severe stomach cramps, fever, and weakness or faintness. Because the cephalosporins are structurally similar to the penicillins, some patients allergic to penicillins may be allergic to a cephalosporin antibiotic. The incidence of cross-sensitivity is approximately 5Ц10%. Yury Bayarski is the author of [http://www.price-rx.com/] Price-RX.com - prescription drug price comparison website. Discovering Mead

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Ruth Tan What is mead? While most people may know that beer is an age-old beverage brewed by fermenting grains, and wine is an alcoholic drink made of fermented grapes, but not many may have heard of mead made from honey. In Europe, honey is fermented to produce this beverage. Simply put, it is honey wine, also called “Nectar of the gods,” or “Drink of Love”. Honey wine is the first alcoholic drink brewed by men, earlier than wine or beer, with alcohol level varying between 7% to 15%. It was told that honey wine could have been produced by chance during the Stone Age when honey became wet from rain and wild yeast in the air settled into the mixture. For centuries, honey wine has been renowned as an ‘aphrodisiac’ (agent which heightens sexual drive) and the word “honeymoon” is believed to be derived from the ancient European custom of having newly-weds drink honey wine for a whole moon (month) in order to increase their fertility and therefore their chances of a happy and fulfilled marriage. Honey wine is also taken as a health tonic drink as it has a good level of antioxidants from honey. Honey wine-making is as easy as brewing beer, however, the fermentation of honey wine takes much longer than the fermentation of beer. Honey wine can take up to two or three years to reach full maturity. The popularity of honey wine has waxed and waned in the last centuries, especially during the times when honey became scarce and expensive, it fell into even greater obscurity. This ancient brew was seen by most people as an old-fashioned beverage. However, interestingly it has been reported that this sweet exotic wine is making a comeback and is currently on the rise throughout the world. Making their own mead at home has become a new buzz amongst beverage hobbyists and many others are beginning to pay attention and becoming enticed to it. Traditional honey wine whether sweet, dry, sparkling or still is simply made of honey, water, and yeast. Today, it comes in a dazzling array of flavors, depending the type of honey, the brewing process you use, and the additions like fruit (e.g blue berry and cherry), herbs, spices, malt, and even peppers you use! When fruits, spices, or herbs are added, honey wine takes on a totally different character and a new name, which could be Melomel (made with fruit juices), Pyment (made with grape juice), Cyser (made with apple juice), Metheglin (made with herbs or spices or both), Hippocras (pyment made with herbs and/or spices), or Braggot (honey-ale made with fermented honey and grains). Choosing which floral varieties of honey to use is a decision of taste and the type of honey wine desired. Stronger honeys like buckwheat go well with sweeter, heavy or spiced honey wines and milder honeys like acacia with delicate flavors work well for traditional or fruit honey wines. Choosing Your Wedding Rings

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By Kathy Burns-Millyard One of the most important steps in planning your wedding, is choosing the wedding ring set. Finding the right rings could actually be considered the most critical part of your ceremony actually, because the wedding bands will be worn by the bride and groom for the rest of their lives. Wedding bands have become a great deal more ornate than they used to be. And Diamond wedding bands have gotten very popular in recent years, thanks to the celebrities who proudly display theirs. Wedding rings are no longer just your standard gold these days though. Many wedding bands and ring sets are made of platinum and titanium. And while 10k gold rings were once considered the “in” thing to buy, couples now prefer 14k gold or higher. Simple diamonds are still a popular buy, but colored diamonds are gaining momentum too, thanks mainly to “J-Lo’s” pink princess cut diamond ring with Ben Affleck. Other popular diamond colors are yellow, blue and aquamarine. With the ever growing popularity of platinum rings, many couples are looking to shining silver and white gold as a cheaper substitute. White gold has a similar look of platinum, but is a fraction of the price. It is a great alternative. The groom’s wedding ring has traditionally been of little concern to anyone, as long as the bride’s was attractive - if not stunning. These days though, men prefer nice rings as well. Sometimes they covet a flashy diamond-studded ring almost as much as the bride does. Finding just the right wedding ring set is just a matter of choice… and time. Since rings can be bought almost anywhere these days - including online - all you need to do is start looking around. These days even department stores are offering great knock offs to the popular celebrity rings at extreme discounts. The popular ring worn by J-Lo for instance - which was a platinum pink diamond ring with a princess cut and accented with two white diamonds on either side - can now be purchased at Wal-Mart in a white gold setting with zirconias and pink topaz stones. So, start by thinking about the type of ring you want: White Gold? Yellow Gold? Sterling Silver? Platinum? Once you’ve decided on that aspect of your ring set, then you’ll need to think about how elaborate you’d like your rings to be. Should they be simple, or completely plain bands? Should they have a little detail work but not much? Should they sport multiple gems? And last but not least of course, think about what you can afford to spend on your wedding bands. They are a once-in-a-lifetime investment but you may not want to spend your lifetime paying them off. Once you have these little details in mind, then you can start your comparison shopping. Go to the department stores if you must, but consider looking around online a bit too. You’ll most likely find some excellent discounts on wonderful wedding bands and sets, without having to sacrafice quality. 2005, Kathy Burns-Millyard, Gift Box Jewelry - Visit GiftBoxJewelry.com to find your ideal wedding ring set, along with other top quality necklaces, bracelets, rings and other popular jewelry at excellent prices! Remember that now you are fighting among the elite, so the competition is even fiercer. Here are 3 surefire methods to apply for success in the Personal interview (1) Goals: The MBA Interview panel is sure to ask you what your goals are in life. What is that you want to achieve through an MBA qualification. To answer this question use your current qualifications as a starting point. Perhaps you have a background in hotel management you can take the example of the Indian retail mall explosion and the need for professional management in managing retail shoppers to ensure high customer satisfaction. (2) Social Achievements: What kind of achievements have you had in life, academic qualifications will definitely help, however the MBA Interview panel is trying to evaluate if you are the kind of personality that can manage teams and coordinate effectively. Suppose you have no significant social achievements to speak of, if you have been involved in organizing religious festivals such as Dusshera or Janamashtmi you can outline how you planned for distribution of food, crowd control and guiding the aged. Try to bring out the professional in you when you handled these social activities. Remember religion helps in sales in India (3) Innovations: If you have developed something new, perhaps SOMETHING SMALL like a website or a blog to guide people to perhaps tips on how to set up a router for small businessmen will definitely be viewed positively. The main thing is to show how your innovation adds to bringing customers or repeat viewers. In short can you market your innovation properly? Engineers definitely have a head start as you can talk about your summer projects. Those from Arts and Commerce background could probably start a blog on some useful topics and then show how they marketed it. These tips are useful for those who do not have any significant awards or achievements to speak of. You will have to show what you have done extra in life apart from studying. Many have come and gone with high scores. It is those who sought to do a little extra by applying their knowledge to come up with something useful to the lives of others who end up as entrepreneurs. Lip Augmentation - The Raw Facts

Monday, March 10th, 2008

By J ONeal Lip augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. Last year, approximately 264,000 people underwent lip-plumping surgery. With fuller lips one can create a more youthful, vibrant look. This is primarily achieved through injections and grafting. Injections: using small needles, the lip is filled with a soft substance to create a fuller appearance. The most widely used substance is collagen, which is found in cow skin. Although purified, collagen can cause allergic reactions in some patients. A sensitivity test should always be performed prior to the actual procedure. Because the body slowly absorbs the collagen, results usually only last one to three months although the procedure can be repeated as many times as desired. Fat harvested from other areas of the body - usually the abdomen or thighs - can also be injected into the lips. One great advantage to this procedure is that there is no possibility of an allergic reaction, although as with collagen the results are temporary. Other injectable lip plumpers include Artecoll, a synthetic material which augments the natural tissue to create long lasting results, Autologen (collagen from the patient’s own skin), which also has relative longevity and Dermalogen, which is extracted from the skin of a human donor then screened and processed to prevent the risk of disease. The effects of the latter are relatively short term and similar to the effects of collagen. Grafting: under local anaesthesia, material is inserted through incisions made in the inside corners of the mouth. The incisions are then closed with stitches. Alloderm is a popular human donor material, which is strictly processed to prevent infection. The material is often absorbed, so results are temporary lasting between 6 and 12 months. A more effective material is Softform, which does not shrink and is never absorbed into the body. Scar tissue forms at each end, keeping it in place. This also makes it easy to remove if it becomes infected. Fat grafting produces lasting results in about 50% of those who try it. Though it can be reabsorbed by the body in time, this is popular as people are comfortable with the idea of using fat from their own bodies in order to enhance their own lips. Most lip enhancements take between 30 minutes and two hours to perform. If the patient has no medical problems the procedure is usually on an outpatient basis, allowing them to return home a few hours after surgery. Topical anaesthesia is generally used before injections so the procedure involves no discomfort. Most people are able to return to their normal routine within two days. Grafts usually involve more pain and a longer recovery period. Local anaesthesia is used in grafting. Local anaesthesia makes the procedure painless but may lead to discomfort later. Recovery time may take one to two weeks and the patient may experience some problems with drooling. Grafting can also leave lips feeling unusually stiff for up to two to three months. As with any surgical procedure, there is always a possibility of infection or reaction to anaesthesia. There are non-surgical options for lip augmentation. One such method can be performed by your dentist. The premise is simple. The structure underneath is enlarged in order to change the appearance of the surface. Teeth support the lips so enlarging the teeth gives the lips a fuller appearance. Dental lip enhancements are performed in one of two ways; either by changing the shape of one’s arch of teeth (or bite) through orthodontics or changing the shape of the front teeth through restorative treatments such as laminate veneers or porcelain crowns. The former treatment is nearly permanent; the latter can last between 5 and 12 years. Now that you are armed with information relating to cosmetic lip plumping procedures why not learn about some more natural methods that can give you sexier, fuller lips without the potential risks. J O’Neal guides you through the pros and cons of cosmetic lip enhancement.
